Victorville Man Arrested After “Human Skin” Teddy Bear Prank Sparks Police Investigation
A 23-year-old Victorville man has been arrested after a disturbing prank involving a teddy bear made to look like it was wrapped in human flesh triggered a law enforcement response outside a convenience store on Sunday.
The bizarre incident happened just after noon at the AMPM on Bear Valley Road in Victorville, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies were called to the scene following reports of possible human remains found outside the store. The area was quickly cordoned off with crime scene tape as a coroner’s investigator examined the teddy bear, which was later collected in a plastic evidence bag for further analysis.
The shocking discovery quickly spread online, eventually catching the attention of Robert Kelly, a South Carolina-based special effects artist behind Dark Seed Creations. Kelly’s company creates horror-themed props, including a “Human Skin Teddy Bear” sold on Etsy for $165.
“You can’t make this up! One of my skin teddy bears apparently got someone in trouble with the police. This is wild!” Kelly posted on Facebook after hearing the news.
Kelly confirmed to KTLA that he had sold one of the skin-like teddy bears to a customer in Victorville just last week. The bears, he said, are crafted from latex to achieve their disturbing appearance.
Later that day, the Sheriff’s Department confirmed the arrest of Hector Corona Villanueva, 23, of Victorville, in connection with the prank.
In a statement, officials said:
“Incidents like this waste valuable emergency resources and can delay response times for real emergencies. We thank the community members who provided information during this investigation.”
Villanueva was booked on charges of making a false emergency report and planting fake evidence intended to appear real.
