Mary Rivera, 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Actress, Dies at 82

Filipino actress known for scene-stealing role opposite Andrew Garfield has passed away in Honolulu.

Mary Rivera, the actress who portrayed Ned Leeds' grandmother in 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," has died at age 82, TMZ first reported.

According to a family member who spoke with TMZ, Rivera suffered a stroke that left her in critical condition. After doctors indicated her prognosis remained poor even if she regained consciousness, her family made the decision to withdraw life support. She died April 15 in Honolulu and was later cremated.

Her Marvel Legacy

Rivera's family encouraged her to audition for the role, which became a career highlight she took great pride in. In one of the film's most memorable moments, her character speaks Tagalog to Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man — asking him to clear cobwebs from the ceiling — while Ned translates for him.

Survivors

Rivera is survived by her husband, Alejandro, along with her children, 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
