Community Mourns After Family Found Dead in Perth

A tragic scene unfolded in Perth’s affluent western suburbs on Friday morning as Western Australia Police launched an investigation into the deaths of a family of four and their three pets. Officers were called to a residence on Mott Close in Mosman Park around 8:15 am after a person known to the family—reportedly arriving for a pre-arranged medical appointment—found the premises unresponsive and raised the alarm. Upon entering the home, police discovered the bodies of a 50-year-old man, a 49-year-old mother, and two teenage boys, aged 14 and 16, located in different areas of the property. Alongside the family, two dogs and a cat were also found deceased.

Detective Inspector Jessica Securo described the incident as a "devastating tragedy" and confirmed that while the investigation is in its early stages, it is being treated as a suspected double murder-suicide. This classification was prompted largely by the discovery of a note at the property, though authorities have declined to reveal its specific contents or who wrote it. Notably, Inspector Securo emphasized that the scene did not appear to be a "violent incident" in the traditional sense, as no weapons were used and there were no signs of a struggle. The family was not previously known to police for any domestic violence matters, and investigators have assured the community that there is no ongoing risk to the public.

A significant focus of the investigation involves the "significant health challenges" faced by the two teenage boys. Police confirmed the family had been actively engaging with care services, and they are now looking "holistically" at whether these medical circumstances played a role in the tragedy. Forensic teams and homicide detectives spent much of Friday conducting a detailed walkthrough of the home, reviewing local CCTV, and canvassing neighbors to establish a timeline of the family's final hours.

The emotional toll on first responders has been profound, with several officers reportedly in shock after witnessing the scene. To support them, the WA Police Force has deployed health and welfare teams, as well as a police chaplain. Member for Curtin Kate Chaney reflected the community's grief, calling the loss "shocking and heartbreaking" while urging local residents to support one another as the investigation continues.
