Man Accidentally Becomes Psychiatrist’s Receptionist
In what can only be described as a modern telecommunication comedy, a man named Daniel briefly found himself running the front desk of a psychiatrist’s clinic without warning, training, or pay.
It all began when Daniel called the clinic to make an appointment. Later, when he tried to call them back, something odd happened: their number had been mysteriously redirected to his phone.
“This is a really weird question,” Daniel recalled telling the receptionist when he finally reached them through another number. “They said they’d heard it all, but this was a new one.”
The mix-up meant that for the next 24 hours, Daniel’s personal phone effectively became the official line for the clinic. Clients called. Voicemails piled up. Confusion reigned.
“I deleted all the voicemails I got from their clients,” Daniel said. “But I let the clinic know about some of the people who had left me messages. They were so apologetic. Honestly, they were lovely about it, just very confused.”
Eventually, the issue was fixed on Wednesday morning, just in time for Daniel to call and pay his deposit. But not before he had several surreal conversations with strangers trying to book psychiatric appointments.
The bizarre story did not stay private for long. When Daniel shared his experience on TikTok, the video quickly went viral, racking up more than 20,000 views and a flood of comments. Many people were amused by the idea of an everyday guy suddenly promoted to psychiatric receptionist.

One commenter joked, “They better add you to payroll, receptionist of the month 👏😂.” Another wondered, “Is the person who normally receives the calls not concerned that suddenly their phone never rings?” A third suggested the whole ordeal might have been intentional, writing, “Maybe the whole thing was a big test of your resilience and character, set by your Dr 😂 this is wild!”
Not everyone was laughing, though. Some viewers felt Daniel should have acted faster to solve the problem. One unimpressed commenter wrote: “I’m kind of annoyed he didn’t immediately email them or go there. Those are the only solutions but instead he’s just… doing nothing/making TikToks about how helpless he is.”
Still, the overwhelming reaction was one of amusement at the absurdity of the situation. Proof that sometimes the strangest things happen when all you are trying to do is book an appointment.
“Honestly? I’m just glad they fixed the number,” Daniel said with a laugh.
