Grandmother murdered in front of grandaughter in Brisbane

A grandmother has been stabbed to death in front of a young child at a shopping centre south-west of Brisbane overnight.

Police said the incident unfolded at a shopping centre car park along the Redbank Plains Road, Ipswich, just after 6pm yesterday.

A manhunt is underway to find the alleged attacker who fled the scene.
Police said the victim, a 70-year-old Redbank Plains woman, was located with life-threatening injuries when emergency services arrived on scene.

Paramedics attempted to revive the woman but she died.

A six-year-old girl, believed to be the woman's granddaughter, was not physically injured.

A crime scene has been declared and investigations are continuing.

Police are looking for the alleged offender, described as African in appearance.

Witnesses told 9News they felt unsafe following the alleged attack.

"It's really bad because this type of stuff doesn't happen in this area," one woman said.

"Now I just feel unsafe because I live really close by and this is my go-to shopping centre."

Police are urging any witnesses to come forward.
